       Fuel-Safe Bus Depot Safety Systems

Development into safe working practises on the fuel island.  Yellow Box traffic light system.  Again using the knowledge gained developing Petroman & petro-link applications for the oil industry the fuel-safe comes out of the same mold.

A requirement was found for a control of vehicles pulling on the fuel island during fuelling periods (shunt) in bus garages.   The fuel shunt is usually between 1800hrs & 0400hrs depending on fleet size.

At certain periods during the night buses would arrive back at  the depot at around the same time, thus creating a backlog or queue on the roads around the depot.  For this reason some bus companies installed high speed fuelling systems such as Identic.  Buses are filled within one or two minutes so with this amount of traffic the fuelling personnel were at risk.

A particular hazard was checking the engine oil at the rear of the bus.  There has been unfortunate accidents where fuellers have been killed or injured due to a following bus running into the back of the fuelling bus.  For this reason the bus companies developed the YELLOW BOX area located in front of the fuel island.  No bus should enter the box until the fuel island is clear.

Traffic light systems have been developed to control entry into the YELLOW BOX.  Fuel-Safe was developed with intelligence to cater for the ever variety  and length of buses such as the new Citaro 'Bendy-Bus'.
